Trade Intelligence
Trade is shifting from commodities to intelligence. As physical goods give way to knowledge-intensive services (computer and information services, intellectual property, and professional and business services), a rising share of what crosses borders is intelligence rather than product.
World trade composition, 2005 to 2024. Goods share (dashed) has declined as intelligence-core services grow their footprint. All values shown as share of total world trade (percent).

A note on measurement
Cross-border AI inference, the tokens that AI services are metered in, is not a line item in any official trade statistic. The closest measured proxies in BaTIS are SI (telecommunications, computer, and information services) and SH (charges for the use of intellectual property). This page measures those reported services; it does not estimate AI token trade, which official statistics do not yet capture.
Intelligence services definition: Intelligence services are the OECD-WTO BaTIS EBOPS-2010 categories SH (charges for the use of intellectual property), SI (telecommunications, computer, and information services), and SJ (other business services).
Intelligence Intensity: intelligence services exports divided by (goods exports + total services exports).
Intelligence RCA: a country's intelligence share of its services exports, divided by the world's intelligence share of services exports. Above 1.0 means specialized.
